Mac OS X Setup Instructions
1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. Click the Network icon. Click the arrow box on the Configure pop-up list and choose Internal Modem.
3. Click the closed lock in the lower left-hand corner of the window. You will be asked to enter the administrator password.
4. Click OK.
5. Click on the TCP/IP tab. Next to Configure, select Using PPP.
6. Make sure there is nothing entered under DNS Servers and Search Domains.
7 . Click on the PPP tab. Enter your information into the appropriate fields, using your SonekNet.net username, password, and local dialup number (example below).
8. Click on the Modem tab. Next to Modem, select Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.34) unless you are using an external modem..
9. Uncheck the box marked "Enable error correction and compression in modem". The window should now look like the one shown below.
10. Click the open lock in the lower left-hand corner of the window and apply configuration changes.
11. Close the Network window.
Mac OS 9 Internet Setup
Using the Internet Setup Assistant
1. From the Desktop, double click on the Hard Drive icon.
2. From the Hard Drive, double click on the Assistants folder to open up this folder. **If you don't see the Assistants folder, click here.
3. In the Assistants window, double click on the Internet Setup Assistant icon.
4. At the prompt, "Would you like to setup your computer to use the Internet?" click Yes.
5. At the prompt, "Do you already have an Internet account?" click Yes.
6. At the Introduction, click the right arrow to continue.
7. Type SonekNet for the connection name field. At "How will you be connecting to the Internet?" click on the Modem radio button. Then click the right arrow to continue.
8. At the prompt, "Which modem are you using?" select your modem from the drop down menu. Select the port from which your modem is installed to from the drop down menu at "Which port is the modem connected to?" Click the Tone radio button at "Does your phone line use tone or pulse?" Click the right arrow to continue.
9. In the top field type the number of the SonekNet.net dialup number you use. Type your SonekNet.net username in the middle field. Your username should be entered exactly as it was when you created the account. In the bottom field, type in the password for your account. Click on the right arrow to continue.
10. At the prompt, "Does your ISP require that you use PPP Connect Script?" click the No radio button. Click on the right arrow to continue.
11. Click the No radio button for "Is there an IP address for this configuration?" Click on the right arrow to continue.
12. In the area labeled, "What is the DNS address for this configuration?" leave it blank. In the field labeled, "What is the Domain Name?" make sure that is empty also. Click on the right arrow to continue.
13. In the first field, type in your e-mail address or leave this blank. In the bottom field, type in your email password or leave this blank also. Click on the right arrow to continue.
14. If you use a POP server, enter its information. Otherwise, leave these fields blank. Click on the right arrow to continue.
15. If you have access to an NNTP server, enter the information here, or leave this blank. Click on the right arrow to continue.
16. Select the No radio button for the prompt, "Do you use proxy servers for Internet connections?" Click on the right arrow to continue.
17. Make sure the box, "Connect when finished" is unchecked. Click the Go Ahead button to finish the Internet Setup Assistant and save your new settings.
Windows XP Internet Setup
Requirements:
You will need the following information.
Your login ID (username)
Your password
1. To get started, click the Start Menu and select Control Panel.
Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, your will need to select the Start menu, select Settings, then choose Control Panel
2. Click the Switch to Classic View icon
3. Double-click the Network Connections icon.
4. Click the Create a new connection icon.
5. Click the Next button.
6. Select Connect to the Internet. Click the Next button.
7. Select Set up my connection manually. Click the Next button.
8. Select Connect using a dial-up modem. Click the Next button.
9. In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (i.e., Soneknet.net).
Click the Next button.
10. In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.
A list of access numbers can be found here. Click Next.
Note: Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the
number you choose is a local toll-free call. be responsible for phone charges.
11. In the User name field, type your username.
In the Password field, type your password.
In the Confirm password field, type your password.
Check the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects
to the Internet from this computer. (Use this option if you want everyone that uses your
computer to be able to access the Internet from your connection)
If you will be using SonekNet.net as your primary Internet connection, check the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.
Click the Next button.
12. Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to
have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop. Click the Finish button.
You have successfully created a Dial-up Connection in Windows XP.
Windows 95/98/2000
Configuring Dial-Up Networking
1. In Windows 95/98 double-click on my computer and then double-click on the Dial Up
Networking folder or in Windows ME click on Start>Settings>Dial Up Networking.
2. Next, double-click on the "Make New Connection" icon.
4. You will be prompted to type a name for the computer you are dialing, enter
"SonekNet" then click next.
5. Next you must enter the phone number of the service you are dialing. To access
our San Diego 619 number, for example, enter 619 in the area code field and 364-3733 in the phone number field, then click next.
6. Click Finish.
7. Right-click on SonekNet and in the menu that appears left-click on properties.
In Windows 95/98 click on the Server Types tab and uncheck everything but "TCP/IP"
then click ok.
In Windows ME click on the networking tab and uncheck everything but "TCP/IP" then click ok.
8. Right-click on SonekNet and in the menu that appears left-click on Create Shortcut then say yes
to allow Windows to place the shortcut on the desktop.
9. Close back to the desktop and you should see "Shortcut to SonekNet."
10. Double-click on the "Shortcut to SonekNet" then enter your user information and click on connect.
Once you get connected double-click on your browser to surf the internet.
